For so long, many UUs have led the way in women’s rights and gender inclusivity. UU children have been raised with these values. But as younger generations embrace new language and thinking about gender and sexuality, some of us worry that they are flying away and leaving us behind. While younger UUs may wonder, “Why were given these wings in the first place, if we were not going to be allowed to fly?” How do we balance our roots with our wings and make space for new vistas?
