We humans have assumed the role of the most intelligent, civilized and compassionate species on the planet. But given our understanding that we share kinship with billions of other life forms clinging to the strands of the Interdependent Web, we are astonishingly species centric. It’s time to remind ourselves that we are part of a vast community that includes those who do not speak or behave in human ways, but are nevertheless complex and worthy creatures in their own right.
